Tire Pressure
« on: August 19, 2005, 07:30:00 am »
I have a set of 32 x 11.50 tires on my truck (new - about 3K miles).  I noticed yesterday that the rear tires are obviously wearing on the outside edges - like they don't have enough air.  I checked (3 different gauges - one of them a good Snap-On) them and they all had 34 #.  What should the pressure be - or what else could be causing this.

What kind of tire? What size rim is it running on?  Are you checking the tire pressure when the tires are cold? (not physically cold, but cold as in you haven't driven them in a while: about 3 hours).  Radial or Biasply?

You can mark the tires with chalk in a 3" wide portion from side to side and drive it a couple feet and see what type pattern it left.  If the sides are gone and middle is still there, add, if the middle is gone reduce.  Don't exceed the recommended pressure on the tires though.

Since the truck didn't come with that size tire, you are probably going to have to find the right pressure.  That marked on the door is not applicable to what you have now, only what is listed.
