Rental Car Insurance
«

I'm renting a car for a longer trip and their insurance is crazy high. I've heard of people saying that if you use a credit card for the rental that you're covered through your credit card company. Any idea if this is true?
Is there a better way to be able so safely decline their insurance?
Thanks guys.

This^^
When I rent a car I increase my insurance coverage (becuase I don't normally carrry collision) When I get done renting the car I have my insurance set back where it was.
Always ask them if your rental is covered.

Both are correct. Check with your credit card, alot of times they cover it. Also check with your insurance, for example I have AAA, any time I rent a car, I call my agent, even if I leave a message, he add's it and I am covered.
Rental car insurance is such a scam to scare people into leaving more money with the rental place.

I called my normal vehicle insurance carrier. They told me I was only covered if I had full coverage on a vehicle.
Since I don't have any vehicles that I cover with full coverage, I would not have any insurance through my normal vehicle insurance policy.
Fortunately, one of the guys whose going on the road trip to Tulsa, Ok. with us has full coverage and we'll rent the car under his name.
I did not call my credit card company and I've read varying reports of their coverage. A person should really call your own card company personally to get exact specifics from them.
Tulsa, here we come!!
Thanks guys.

Glad you found a solution.
What I was getting at is to increase your insurance to full coverage for your trip then call again to have it set back to your current coverage when you are done renting the car. I do that anytime I rent a car and it only cost a few dollars.

when i was given a rental cause the dealer was working on my car so they gave me a free renta0l
, well i tried to trash it jumping it even thought i could hit a jump and get some air and somehow the suspension didnt want to work right so it bottomed out
but after a day of jumping and trying to abuse this car i was at the wifes family and was goofing off and backing up and back into a telephone pole. broke the tail light bumper and dented the rear near the taillight, so i made a few calls then was diving it from work and this woman rear ends me. i thought i lucked out but she didnt do anymore damage to the car lol and she used her good looks against me
but then i got ahold of my wife side of the family they own a junkyard about 6 hrs away got a bumper and taillight gave a painter the vin they got me the paint and painted it and put it all back together, bad thing is the dealer was calling looking for the car but i was waiting on the paint so it was a couple days late but it didnt charge me nothing since it was free from day one lol only had to pay for paint which was like 200 for just enough to paint the bumper with no flex

the whole 'your credit card company will cover you USED to be a given'...
these days you have to check with your card company - we use Amex and they do cover you, BUT charge $25 for the whole rental...
pretty cheap considering most of the rental companies charge so much per day and if you are gone for a couple three weeks, it can add up.
good luck
