Carpet Installation

my truck is due for a new mat or carpet im wanting to put carpet in it my floor boards are solid no rust through the pans im trying to find a way to try and prevent the surface rust from growing i was thinking maybe undercoating or something in that nature now after i get that done i was thinking of a sound deadner ive read about a product from lowes on here that some members have been using for deadners im open to suggestions Thank you in advance

     First off, I hope you are going to remove the surface rust, not just cover it up.  There are several methods of sound deading, there are spray on and the mat/thermal blanket type.  I am thinking of using second skin (spray on, under cab and firewall maybe, maybe inside of doors is I go crazy with it ) and then a mat of some sort (under carpet), that way I can double duty it for my truck.

     Spray on I suggest "Second skin", you should also buy their gun to spray with.

You need to put some rust converter on the rust prior to covering it.

     There is a product that I use at work that Gemplers sells that is rust converter, I have been using it for 3 years now and it holds up really well.

     That floor does not look all that bad.  You might be better off sanding off the surface rust and primering and repainting.

The best and I repeat the BEST thing to put on the cab floor is Por15. It is a little pricey but you won't EVER have to worry about it rusting again. Here's a link to it on their website. You have to make sure to buy the special cleaners that they sell also.  It's a 3 step process and you can't skip any steps or it won't work right. Best stuff out there period.
