MPGs for a 5.0
« on: January 21, 2012, 10:11:09 pm »
I am in the process of having an '84 crate 305 installed in my '83 C10. As I'm getting things wrapped up, I'm curious as to what to expect for fuel economy. It is a stock 305, but it has the 4bbl carb and intake off of my '76 350. I have a moderately heavy right foot, and it has the TH350 auto tranny. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I am netting 15.6 mpg in my 1985 C10 with a 305 and a TH350 with no second gear.  It has 120K uses a little oil but runs nicely.  With a light foot I don't think 18 mpg is out of the question, maybe more if the tune is right on.

Yeah, 18mpg is doable, when my '84 had the 305, with th350c, and good running quad, I was getting about 18 or so on the highway to college.

84 crate is LG4.  If you guys can get 18 great.

In my opinion expect no more than 16 especially if you have a "heavy foot."  In that case 15's are more like it.

What rear gear do you have?

Also, check out my thread below this one entitled "MPG pt. 1" for more suggestions/info.
