Tail lights
« on: March 11, 2012, 04:05:12 pm »
Do you know what this could be?  When i turn my ignition on my taillights come on, but my brake lights dont work they just stay on. and at night when i turn all lights on it blows instrument cluster fuse and lights on back go out. Do you have any idea where to start?

You may want to check all the bulb sockets for corrosion and plug ins in the harness. If you find something questionable unplug it and try it.

You have a short somewhere.  I would start with the problem area's.  You said brake lights stay on all the time.  Take them apart and as 1980c10 stated, make sure they are not corroded all up.
Next check the headlight switch for a short as 454Man said, after that I would move on the ignition switch, it could be internal in the column.
Electrical shorts are a pain sometimes to run down, and there could be more than one causing a problem, keep your cool and take your time and you will track down the problems.

if your break lights are on all the time check the break light switch, they wear out sometimes and will just stay on all the time. could be alot of different things.
