Different A Arm lengths?
« on: August 08, 2004, 08:58:00 pm »
I've been wondering if there is different length A Arms or spindles between Chev and GMC trucks. I have an '87 chev shorty (R10) and replaced many parts with an '87 Gmc 1/2 ton 8' box parts truck. (I think) I used the spindles and lower control arms from the Gmc, with the chev upper A arms. The GMC had beefier rotors so I kept them. Upon reassembly using the original shims, there is a noticeable slant of the tires at the top as if the top A -Arms were too short. All parts looked identical, but can they be different sizes? (I ditched the rotten parts already.)  I also forgot to re-install the bump stops on the upper arms, but I cant see that having such a large effect. Somebody help! Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

GMC and Chevy trucks are COMPLETELY identical, the only differences are the badging.  If there was differences in the shims at the upper control arm is it due to alignment, no truck will align the same.
