on the other side of the border this transmission is widely use... most the the normal manual c10 chevy trucks have this transmission and they have a special bell housing... my 75 chevy c10 had an automatic and i decided to switch it to a manual transmission... i wanted to use the T176 because its lighter and has better gears than most transmission in this era... i bought the transmission for about 200 bucks in great condition... but i just couldnīt find the correct bell housing... all i found was the normal chevy type bell housing with the ears 5in apart (top to bottom) with a 5in bore.. for the tranny to fit i filed the top holes towards the inside about an 1/8 in... then for the bottom ears i welded and extra ear to the transmission and drilled a hole to be able to bolt up the transmission to the bottom of the bell housing... this can only be done to one side... i couldnīt do much to the other side so i just left it... here are some pics...
something i would have done different would be center the extra ear before welding it was a stupid mistake, i was lucky not to have drilled the hole any closer to the edge ,i have about a 1/4 of an inch before i ran out of space for the new hole... you can see it in the last picture...

how did you center the trans in the bellhousing? any issues with the input shaft depth? what pilot bearing did you use? I have a cj5 with the t176 and am trying to swap in a sbc for little to no money. I have no problem drilling holes. Thanks

well for starters the bellhousing locator / throwout sleeve was the same bore size are the bell housing about 5 in I think...for the pilot bushing the standard pilot bushing that came with a LUK clutch kit with the 12in clutch disk for the 350 was the perfect size.. i found a good page with a lot of useful information, you might get some use out of it too... this is the link

iīve been driving my pick up with no problems what so ever with this set up...
