Adding AC
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:54:58 am »
My 74 is an AC cab, but it wasn't hooked up when I got it. The compressor and brackets were gone too.

So I am buying a set of brackets for an R4 type compressor, I'll be getting the compressor in a couple weeks, but I have some questions.

1st. Will the hoses from an A6 compressor work? I have a pretty much brand new set from my old 76 shorty.

2nd, is there a difference in the accumulators between the two?

Is there anything I should know going in?

I'm new to ac work, I have never really used it, but it was 117 in Phoenix on Tuesday, and I really want ac now.

The fittings on the R4 vs A6 are different.  The rest of the system is the same short of the hoses going to the pump and the connector.

Oh I hear ya !

I took my C-10 to Dicks spedo in Tempe on Tuesday to have a seal replaced, I was talking to the owner
about the K-5 Blazer he's building for his son and the topic lead to A/C

My C-10 had sat for seven years and when it was new it had aftermarket A/C installed @ Midway Chev
he suggested I take it across the yard to a buddy that did the A/C work on his Blazer.

½ hour later I had A/C, no leaks and a constant 49°  8)

Dick's is on McClintock and McKellips, right?  I'll prolly take the truck over there to get the system charged up. Thats only a few miles from me.
