1973-1977 headlight bezels
« on: July 14, 2012, 12:40:10 pm »
A question for anyone who has restored one of these trucks: what were the headlight bezels originally made of? I have my original ones still, and they appear to be metal of some kind, but non-magnetic (and chrome plated). I see that the reproductions are plastic. Thanks!

I think they are stainless steel, could be wrong though. The cheapo repops are junk, I'd hit the junkyard as sbx22 said, get another set and get them rechromed.

I figured the repops were inferior. I'll send my originals out to be rechromed. Thanks for the advice!

They are chrome-plated pot metal.  Can be a real chore to clean-up, fill-in and smooth pitted pot metal.  Best place I know of is www.thefinishingtouchinc.com for plated pot metal restoration.  They aren't the cheapest place around though!
