Front axle rebuild

I am wanting to rebuild my front axle and I have never done it before so I need a tutorial or something. I read that gm manuals are good but I saw a tutorial on this site and I searched and searched for it but can't find it. So If anyone can link me to it that would be appreciated.

A Haynes, or Chilton manual covers from the axle out pretty well.
New hubs come with instructions.

I got everything out of my axle and am I looking at getting a new dust shield. The thin metal around the caliper bracket is shot but the thick part seems good, couldn't I do some sheet metal work with this and will a 2wd shield fit? Also the ring or whatever in the center next to the holes, do you need that? it is just about going to fall off.
I saved myself $30 by making this axle nut socket from some scrap iron, it don't look the best but it gets the job done.
