Sea-foam trans tune
« on: July 24, 2012, 07:39:44 pm »
Hey before i do it: is there any reason not to run the Sea-foam trans tune in my turbo 350 tranny? I was thinking i might have heard something about it at some point but there is a very good possibility that it had been in reference to something else.

Is there a reason to run the Sea-Foam trans tune?  Are you having specific issues with the transmission?

yah it doesn't shirt quite right, and it's spewed a little fluid up threw the dipstick a few time. Talked to a freind of mine and that's what said he'd do, but i thought i'd ask just to make sure.

I'm by no means an expert with automatic transmission issues and I'm sure others will chime in on the subject.

Have you had the truck a while and experienced the issues or has it recently occurred? Have you checked the following:  1) transmission fluid level; 2) ensured the tranny cooler is not blocked; 3) had a filter/fluid change within a reasonable time frame?

The reason I ask is that sometimes additives can often time mask an underlying issue.  I have used Berryman's B-12 to extend the life of an auto transmission (i.e., it helps soften hardened seals), but it really was just a "bandaid" for the real issue (i.e., the transmission needed an overhaul).

I'm not saying the Sea-Foam won't help, it may be great if the truck had sat for a long time or was a slow driven farm truck; however, all things being equal one shouldn't have to add "additives" for the transmission to work correctly.

Any additional information might help someone more experienced with automatic tranny issues.

Jason has some pretty good advice. Not sure if the 350 has a vent tube like the. 700r. But I've had clogged vent tubes and trans filters cause it to spew out the dip stick (makes a pretty good fire when it hits the headers :/ ) not enough  and too much trans fluids can cause problems as well. I would also check the vacuum line going to the trans as well just my 2 cents

basically it acts like it has some gunk in there clogging it up a little so my plan was to run that stuff though it and then flush it.
