700r4 TV Seals
« on: July 27, 2012, 11:12:52 am »
83 K10 Pickup, 350/700r4, no lift.

So the 700r4 in my 83 K10 have been leaking when turned off, doesn't seem to leak while running.  I thought it was the pan gasket so I replaced that and the filter, still leaks.  It is coming from the passenger side. Feels dry around the top of the transmission and the coolant lines.  Trans case is filthy so hard to see where but I think it's coming from the TV cable seal.

Last night I took the TV cable off and there is two seal, a flat rubber washer on the bottom of the cable, and a boot/sleave style seal plugged into the transmission.  The boot seal is torn, question is do I need both? can I use just the washer, should I get rid of the washer and replace the boot?

I've searched and can't find any info on the washer, I did replace the TV cable with one from AutoZone a few months ago and that's where the washer came from.

Its just one seal, so yours probably tore in half. I replaced my t.v. cable recently and it came with a new seal. I pushed it into the transmission case and then the cable itself.

Be careful getting the old seal out,as it can drop into the pan. (like mine did).
