« on: August 27, 2012, 05:25:25 pm »
Any idea on where this wire connects.  I found it laying on my exhaust manifold.  Thanks.

What year, model and engine?
If you've got a TBI engine, that may go to the Air Management Valve above the AIR pump.

Well in that case. . .  it may go to the Air Management Valve above the AIR pump.   ;D

What color are the wires?

they are brown and black I am a complete and total idiot when it comes to this TBI stuff.  I am fresh out of the diesel world and haven't messed with gas engines in years.  What does the air pump look like.  if it's the pump that attaches to the firewall and connects to the throttle linkage it won't reach that far.  it ties into the harness with a small connector right under the computer on the passenger side of the truck and points forward.  It is about 9-10" in length.

X2 on the A.I.R. solonoid. My 87 electrical book shows a brn and a pink/blk wire. Is there an A.I.R. pump still on the motor. It is under the altenator and belt drivin.

no it's been removed.  I found a guy today with a 87 and he still had the air pump and that is where it went.  Can I just disconnect the wire and everything be fine.  I checked codes on it last night and found the CTS and Map.  My guess is thats why it's running bad.  I just replaced the CTS though.  So much for an easy fix.

Leaving the Air Management Valve disconnected shouldn't set a code.  Stored sensor codes for CTS and MAP don't mean you have a problem.  Sensor codes can set if the sensors are unplugged when the ignition key is cycled.  Clear ECM memory by unplugging the ECM battery fuse for 20+ seconds.  Then see if codes reset when the vehicle is driven.  Any codes that reset are active faults.

cleared them with the snap on tool.  Came right back as soon as we started the truck.  Also checked timing that the jackleg before me had set and it was at 8 degrees ret with the ECM in bypass mode (unplugged).  I love chasing others peoples mistakes.
