Help with a 350
« on: August 30, 2012, 05:27:38 pm »
Hello guys
About a week ago I was driving down US-54 here in El Chuko Tx, when all of a sudden my engine started knocking, I pulled over and turn off the engine. I didn’t want to run it until I checked it; it’s a sad thing seeing a dodge tow a Chevy
Any ways I pulled the valve cover on the passenger side off and found a joke ...
350: knock, knock
Me: who's there?
350: push
Me: push who?
350: push rod broke my rocker arm
So guys need some help, if it was just that rocker and that push rod, is it a simple remove and replace or should I check other things?
What could have caused this?
The engine is a 350, all stock, and my truck is a 78 stepside
Thanks in advance

usually on engines with lots of miles sometimes there is excessive wear on moving parts such as the rockers... you can replace that set, and check the other rockers and push rods for excessive wear... turn the engine and make sure there is plenty of oil pumping out of the push rods... get a few more thousand miles on the engine and then rebuild it.... this is what i would do... everything will be find as long as your not racing with the engine....

...replace that set, and check the other rockers and push rods for excessive wear... [run] the engine and make sure there is plenty of oil pumping out of the push rods....

Verify your oil pressure with a manual gauge.

What oil are you running, at what oil & filter change intervals?

In other words... if people learn by making mistakes, by now I should know just about everything!!!

Hydraulic lifter could have stuck all the way out, I'd pull the intake and check all the lifters as well
