Dana 60 knuckle and spindle assembly help needed
« on: September 01, 2012, 03:44:19 pm »
I've never even had to think about it before.  Take it apart and it just goes back together.  This time it's been two months and many distractions between the two.  I've got these parts

Goes on here

I thought the spindle goes on the caliper bracket, then the shield, then the hub assembly.  But it can't.  The casting of the spindle is way bigger.

Thought "no biggie, the dust shield must go first.". No go, the OD of the spindle is smaller than the inside of the dust shield.

The only way it fits is if I flip it around lime this:

But theres no freaking way the calliper stand/bracket would allow that stupidity.  So I'm scratching my head, what the heck am I doing wrong?  Theres three parts and only so many possibilities but the solution is eluding me.  PS. Sorry about the additional pics.  I can't figure out how to make them go away.

After saying "there's only so many combinations"...lol, guess I didn't try them all.  Here's the one I missed, and the only way I goes together.

Knuckle, spindle, then calliper stand, and then dust shield.
