cutting hatch for fuel pump replacement?

hey
what do you guys think of the idea?

i saw on you tube where somebody cut a hole/hatch in the bed of their 90's c-10 to alleviate the hellish job of changing the fuel pump. i thought this might be a consideration for the future but as i noticed on a 87 style short/wide the pump opening falls just under the cab. i thought if i ever decided to do the cab interior while the bed was off over i might try to cut a hatch/rivit tabs/silicon-close for the future?? just an idea. i did the tank once on uneven earth and it is a job i do not care to do again.

Not a bad idea, but I think the work involved in making a decent looking hatch is more than it would be to just drop the tank.  Don't remove the gas tank straps, leave them on the tank and instead unbolt the straps from the frame (8 bolts per tank, easy to access) and drop it straight down, it takes about 20 minutes by yourself.
Your sending units won't fail that often to necessitate the need for a hatch (I hope haha)

I agree with Elpresidente.
It only takes a couplehours to change one of these tanks, not worth hacking up sheet metal for.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
