Keyless remote entry install
« on: July 28, 2012, 06:52:12 pm »
Just completed a keyless remote entry install on my daughters 84.

I bought a "system" off eBay for about 18.00. It consisted of two keyless remotes, wiring harness and control box. The instructions were decent and somewhat straightforward.

For the constant 12 volt source I used the clock plug from the fuse box, it has a little female connection that was unused. Ground was a screw on the firewall. After finding the relays to my factory power locks (above the gas pedal) I used a test light to see which wires were activated when pushing lock and unlock on the door lock switch.

The wires I spliced into for my new "system" are located on the drivers side under the dash just above the kick panel and right next to the lower A/C vent. Its a three wire plug consisting of orange/blk tracer, light blue, and black/white tracer wires.

The orange/blk wire is the constant 12volt source for the new control box to operate the relays or I guess energize them. The light blue wire and black/white tracer wire are for the actual "lock" and "unlock"  connection to the new control box.

I took me a little while to get all this straight since I don't have a wiring diagram, but it works great and I thought I would pass along the information.

I opted not to have my running lights blink when using my keyless remote.

Sounds like a good idea. Let us know in a few months how its holding up. I've had mixed luck with rhode ebay kits in the past.

I'm actually in the process of installing a system in my 74 right now but the diagram they gave me is very blotchy and un readable is there a way you can either upload or take a picture. it would be much appreciated

thanks, Justin

I'm not sure if the wiring is the same on a 74 vs. an 84.  I have no way of posting pictures on this site. I have existing power door locks so it may be easier splicing into the system.
