Timing issues? (Long read)
« on: December 06, 2012, 10:12:53 pm »
Hey guys,

Brand new to the forum. I just bought an 86 Chevy c10 swb that I plan on fully restoring. I bought the truck and it ran, just not very well. It would idle in park or neutral, but not in gear. You would have to rev it up in neutral, then pop it into gear, then you could go. So I had the quadrajet rebuilt, then I replaced the distributor cap, rotor cap, ignition coil, plug wires, new plugs, new fuel filter, and drained the old fuel.  I got the truck running where it would idle in drive, but I had to turn the distributor cap counterclockwise very far, and speed up the idle more than I liked. It would then idle high in neutral, but would idle in drive. Tonight I set the timing with a timing light to 6 degrees before TDC.  I got the truck idling the same speed in drive and neutral, so I backed it out and started for a test drive. When I backed it out, ran fine, but when I popped it into drive, it sputtered and died! UGH...... I also checked the vacuum lines for a leak, and I can't seem to find one. There just might be one though. Anyways, can you guys offer up some suggestions??? Anything will be greatly appreciatied.

Thanks!

Does it still have the ESC hooked up?  (computer under the dash above the AC/Heater box.
