April Truck of the month - Tx_Phil Suburban 4x4
« on: December 28, 2012, 10:24:50 am »
Since we don't have enough trucks for a calendar yet, I am making the call on this and declaring Tx_Phil the April Truck of the month.  Congrats!  Please reply to any pertinent information you would like to share.

Thanks Chris

Shes an 1987 1/2 ton Suburban 4x4.  She has a 350 (5.7 liter) with throttle body injection. The transmission is a 700R4 with an NP208 transfer case. The axels (front and rear) appear to be stock and according to the RPO code they are 3.42 with a locking rear end. The PO told me she has a 6" Rough Country lift. The rear is lifted with blocks while the front uses shackles. The shocks are Rough Country. The wheels are factory 15" steel and they still have the beauty rings. The tires are 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrains.

I've done no work to the exterior. What you see is how she was when I bought her. Thus far I've only found two very small places with surface rust which will soon be corrected. The interior however was gutted. No headliner, no carpet, no door panels, no trim and the seats were piled in the back of the truck. The power window and lock switches were cutoff and tossed in the back as well.

The door panels have been reinstalled and the windows and locks re-wired. The front power seats (after market) have been repaired and reinstalled along with the factory console. The rear seats have been reinstalled and except for one piece of missing duct work the dash is ready to go back together.

The intent for this truck was to be a ranch / hunting truck only. After getting my hands on it and seeing how solid it is I’m tempted to make it a little more.  I still want it to be a rough and rugged rig but I think she deserves to be treated better than just bouncing around on a ranch. For the interior I plan to cover the floor with bed liner and run it about 1 foot up the sides all the way around.  I would really like to cover the entire exterior with bed liner as well but we will see.  I think I will start with just the lower quarter and see how I like it.  I also have a roof rack under construction which will be right at 4’x8’x6” deep. Some custom bumpers front and rear are also planned but the stockers should work for now.
