« on: June 12, 2013, 12:31:45 am »
hello.. i can say now, thanks to the website for letting me know what year my chevy truck is. but to the question in hand. the engine in the truck is a 350 crate engine. is there anyway i can find out what year the engine is? because the truck needs a fuel pump and a few other pieces. thank you for your time

The block casting number on small block and big block Chevy V8 motors is located on a ledge found at the rear of the block, most often on the driver's side.
then use this

Not exactly sure how to find out the year----could you possibly contact the previous owner?

But it doesn't really matter as all small block water pumps fit all small blocks for the most part.   There is a short version and a long version of the pump and you have to be careful about that.  You most likely have the long version(along with most chevy cars), unless someone switched the pulleys (not likely).      Either of these pumps will fit the engine, but it was mostly for space reasons and thus the pulleys are different for each pump.

Also, the exception is there is a reverse cooling version of the small block but i don't think you have to worry about that in your case.

Can you snap a pic of the front of the engine?

the previous owner did not really know anything about the truck. he told me that it was all numbers matching, trying to make it sound better than it actually was. thank you so very much for your help
