Tore front end apart, got wrong parts
« on: March 02, 2013, 11:24:21 am »
I measured the thickness of my rotors on my 82 before I ordered the western chassis spindles and they are 1in. Ordered them up, and spent all morning tearing into the project only to try to bolt on the caliper and no go. The holes to put the caliper bolts thru are not even close. The part number I got are 13200. Anyone have a issue with western chassis parts fitting? Anyone have a idea on what could be up? The first thing that comes to mind is maybe I got 1.25in rotor spindles? They are stamped C10 on them so they have to be for the right truck, or maybe they are for a earlier or later truck. So frustrating. Western Chassis will call me on Monday to help. I'm thinking the wrong spindles got put in the box.

Alright, I referenced the calipers and they come back 1981 GM truck. They are part number K18007150 N GM. I took the 13200's back and got the 13100's and same problem, caliper too big for the spindle. Since my truck had 1in rotors to begin I guess the next step is to get the 13200's back and go to a parts store and check out the calipers they have listed for my truck and try them out. This just figures, everytime I go to do something on a old car/truck I run into this kind of oddball crap.

Got it worked out. Western Chassis called me back and told me of a rough casting issue they've seen before. I had to take a little off the parts of the calipers that rested on the spindle and also part of the spindle that touched the caliper on the top and bottom. No biggie, just took a little time since I don't have a grinder, I had to use rasps. I'm happy with the 2.5in of drop it has. Now, on Wednesday I'll do the other side and call it done.

Thanks for the info. I figured since Summit was only 50 miles away I'd give it a shot but I was wrong. Just wasted 4 gallons of gas. I haven't been able to get the other side done. Wanted to do it tonight but got home late. I'll post up pics when I get it done.
