Does your horn work (its on the same circuit)? If not, check the fuse. I had a majorly rusted out, light socket for the dome light that caused a short and fried the fuse and some of the wiring.

You said "3 of my squares where the orange and whites wire run under the threshold they were brittle and broken". Can you explain what exactly you mean by that? I have the same problem -- no dome light but horn works.

I guess I might not have used the correct name but the plate that holds the carpet in place at the bottom of the door frame on the drivers side . Under that plate the wire for the dome light is run under it . just remove the screws and pull it up . The dome light wires run under there in a groove. It's a two wire molded together deal one wire white the other orange . On mine I found that  insulation had cracked , water and crud had turned the wire black several inches back in both directions.

Also the dome light on these trucks are "ground to operate " .. The hot wire / bulb has power  full time . the ground wire runs to the door switches and headlight switch . so be careful if you are using jumper wires to test with . You could let some smoke out  :o

could be the head light switch.i once had a dome light then i swapped my head light switch out then i lost my dome light. never got around to fixing it but it could also be a broken wire that i broke changing it

some custom deluxe models had no dome light switch in the door. The only interior light was turned on by turning the headlight switch to the left.
