vapor canister
« on: April 12, 2013, 04:01:57 pm »
in my 1983 k10 I think I have found my vapor canister. to my understanding doesn't it put the vapors from the tank into the engine to help with emissions and mpg. and if so I would like to hook mine back up. as far as I can tell it has a steel line going to it that comes up from the frame. then their is  a rubber line that comes from the canister and just runs straight out and rest on the wheel well and all of this is on the drivers side up by the radiator. Thoughts?

That steel line goes to the gas tank.  The other outlets on your canister may be labelled if you look closely as to what they hook up to.  There should be a line to the bowl vent on the carb and perhaps a line to a thermal switch to control the valve in the canister.  I bought a new canister for my truck and it did come with directions.  I think they're worthwhile to cut down on fuel smell.

I think mine was disconnected when the last guy put In a edlebrock carb. does is have anything to do with the catalytic converter or the smog pump? if so I don't have either.
