« on: May 21, 2013, 01:02:54 pm »
I have  a 1986 Chevy k10 pickup that I'm rebuilding.. I need advise of buying everything EGR or non EGR ex: intake Manifold, carb ??? I'm just worried about not passing emissions
Can a non egr pass emissions or is it legal to drive on the street?? Thanks in advance.

depending on your state & county, will dictate if you can ditch the EGR or not.

If you have emission testing then more than likely you will have to keep the EGR.

I am lucky, my county in NC only requires a visual safety, which only means headlights, brake lights, turn signals and horn.

So if I rebuild the engine without the egr it will not pass emissions ( the two speed idle test).  I'm in Texas and they will perform the two speed idle test from the tail pipe..so in short term no egr it will not pass, egr will pass????I'm trying to sort this out because I'm ready rebuild the engine and start buying parts..thanks

I live in Texas, my truck is a 1984, and I dont have to do the emissions test. I believe you are safe, as your truck is 27 years old.  I removed all the smog stuff, including the EGR, got it inspected at the end of last year.

Research this government site for official State regulations, restrictions and emissions testing: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality - Vehicle Emissions Inspections.

Not sure where you are Jerry, I live in Texas and vehicles over 25 years old are safety only, so my '84 has no problems.
