Engine oil cooler
« on: June 22, 2013, 10:03:32 pm »
Recently purchased 84 3/4 ton big block 2WD great shape.  I noticed this truck has an oil cooler, was this a factory item?  Just looking at it and it's routing it looks very OEM.  In addition, I've never seen a SBC or BBC with this size of oil filter.  We all know the general size of your standard V8 oil filter and this one is the same width or circumference but it's very long...I would say a solid 8" if not a little more.  What's that all about?  I know, the simple answer is, "well dude, you have a big oil filter, that's it."  I just find it interesting that I've never seen this before.

Engine Oil Cooler was an available factory option.  The RPO (Regular Production Option) code for the engine oil cooler is KC4, so you can check the glove box sticker (if it is still in the truck) and see if your truck came with it from the factory.

I had a factory oil cooler in my 86 in fact I still have a set of lines someplace, if you have a real "long" filter you have a 2 quart truck filter.
