Front splash shields - Do they do much good?
« on: June 25, 2013, 03:15:09 pm »
While tidying up under the hood today I decided to remove the lower fiberboard splash shields that were floppin' around by the control arms. They were kinda fallin' apart anyway. Do these things really do any good?  It looks a lot cleaner without them in there.   They are available for $20 each but if they don't serve much purpose I'd just as soon leave them off. Whatchu guys think?

Depends where you drive. I keep mine on just to keep mud and dirt out of the engine bay, but if you do a lot of city driving then you can probably do without. I do find it keeps a lot of water and stuff out though.

Pressure differentials between the wheel-well and under the hood will force dirt and water into the engine bay.  They are there for a purpose, but like others said...it depends on how much you drive it and in what kind of conditions.

Yeah mine were missing when I bought my first truck and I did nothing to it and I get water and dirt in the engine like crazy. Now mine is a temporary beater so I do not really care, but if you care about keeping the engine clean, I would put some on.
