Sean Murphy at SMI recommended the Comp 12-235-2 to me for my '78 350. He said it was the closest thing to a ZZ4 cam if I wasn't going to go to roller lifters. I went to a lower rpm, torquier 12-300-4 because of the kind of driving I do (pretty much all in town), but the 12-235-2 is what Sean recommended as his pick for an all-around great cam. It's a 254/262. It won't have the chunky idle you may be looking for though. Numbers on a 400 with Qjet, decent manifold, long headers, and 8.5:1 static compression ratio (stock heads) are 443 lb-ft at 3000 and 313 hp at 4000. Torque is 358 lb-ft at 1000 and 419 lb-ft at 1500, so it comes on real fast. Terrific hole shot.
