chevy 350 hydrolocked, now wont fire
« on: September 10, 2013, 06:20:45 pm »
hello all, i have a 1987 chevy v10 with the throttle body 350. well last week i got a little bit stupid when i was mudding and went through a puddle that was a little bigger than i thought it was...... long story short, water splashed up and went through the k&n and through the trottle body and into the intake and cylinders........ i took all the spark plugs and turned the engine over, i put a new starter and plugs on. it turns over now, but wont start. i know it somewhat has spark because i can hear a cylinder or two fire every now and then...... im stumped... and ideas?

Water in the distributor or wet coil.  Replace the cap, dry out the distributor and the divorced coil.  Or, lift the cap and spray it out with some WD-40.  Just be cautious, because WD-40 is flammable.  If that doesn't cure it, run a compression check.

  • Do you hear the fuel pump priming for a couple of seconds after first switching the ignition ON?

  • Any chance you got water in the fuel tank?

  • Did a loose distributor spin and throw the timing off?

  • Have you verified engine condition with a compression check?

  • After checking compression, try a light shot of ether into the throttle body.

...about half of the cylinders were filled with water........
   :o
How fast was it taching when it went for a swim?
If it was under long enough to fill cylinders, or was taching high RPM when it went troglodyte....

...Well, maybe it'll start when it dries out.

Have you checked the crankcase for tadpoles?!
