rear leafs
« on: October 22, 2006, 09:23:00 pm »
Hi everyone , I'm dropping the rear end out of my 1986 c10 and was wondering how to get the bolts out of the shackles. I removed the nuts off the bolts with the help of some heat but man the bolts won't come out. Do I have to cut them out with torches or should you be able to pound them out. I have started to rebuild my truck ,  but I think I'm slowly getting in over my head ...Help

thanks Bill

I have used a sawzall to cut them. Cut down inbetween shackle and spring, take a while and a few blades most times. I usually use a torch though. Cut off both ends, them use a pry bar to spread the spring and shackle as far away from each other as poible and cut. You will cut through the bushing sleave and then burn the rubber and scrape it out, then cut the bolt.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs
