Found my oil leak
« on: March 13, 2014, 02:17:29 pm »
I've been having an oil leak for some time but it never was bad enough to locate easily. It finally did get bad enough and I traced to to the front seal. I bought a FEL-PRO timing cover gasket set with the repair sleeve and installed it along with a FEL-PRO one piece oil pan gasket. No more leak!  The oil pan gasket was very easy to install. It came with 4 clip/studs that screw into the 4 corners of the block and the gasket slips over the prongs to hold it in place while you bolt the pan back to the block. After you get all your small bolts in place you simply remove the clip/studs and replace the 4 big bolts at each corner.
Here's a picture of the harmonic balancer before I installed the repair sleeve. Notice the grove cut by the front oil seal.

That should make you happy, no more oil on the ground.
