Holley Blue mounting suggestions.
« on: April 11, 2014, 11:24:46 am »
Hi everyone. Im new to this site and have a few questions. I have and 82 Chevy SWB with a stock 96 BB 454.. has a new after market intake and Edelbrock carb. My question is... where is the best place to mount a Holley Blue pump and regulator? Ive personally heard anywhere on the truck. But these pumps were made to push and not pull correct. A friend of mine has his mounted to his firewall... and has zero issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

First off welcome to the site from California.  On the Holley web site under Carburetor Instruction Sheet, for part # 12-802-1 (blue pump and regulator for BB motors), you will find the instruction page that states.

 "PUMP MOUNTING AND INSTALLATION:
The pump MUST be located below and as close to the tank as possible. This is necessary to allow for an adequate fuel supply.
The pump is designed to push fuel and not designed to pull fuel out of the tank. The pump should be mounted on the chassis,
in a vertical position with the pump motor on top. Avoid contact of the pump and fuel lines to moving parts and to any hot 2
areas, such as the exhaust. The pump should not be mounted in a closed area, such as the vehicle's trunk. Follow the steps
below for mounting the pump".

Manufactures always put what is best for the product that they are selling, hence the statement "as close to gas supply and "pump is designed to push not pull".  If your friend has it mounted on the firewall and has been running without problems, you can do the same thing.  The only thing that would matter is if it went out, and you asked for warranty and you told them you mounted on the firewall they might not give you warranty.

Thats what i was thinking also. Just wanted to make sure it was correct to avoid any unwanted problems later.

Have another question.
Do you or anyone know what ac/alt brackets i could use? I have some brackets that may or may not work.. i will post pics later on at work at the moment.

Thanks.

I assume you mean to mount the AC & ALT. correct ?  Do you not have the ones off the 96 ?  I am pretty sure you will have to go with the newer style brackets off a 454.

I got everything but the actual brackets. Im assuming the ones i have will work but i dont think they are the correct brackets. Its a surpentine system though. As long as it works im happy. I know the power steering pump and alternater brackets mount up.. have'nt tried the ac bracket yet. Not running an ac though.

Just been having a rough time finding the brackets. I had a buddy helping me because i have not worked on a chevy motor in forever... but he cannot help anymore so im doing it alone.

Pics are always a good way to compare to what others have on here.  I would try the brackets you have and if they do not work then revisit the question and we can help out.

You have a couple of options, in the tech section it has a thread on how to re-size and upload pics from your computer, you can use photo bucket or some host site like it and import pics using the "insert image" button (right above the smiley faces all the way to the left, looks like a pic of Mona Lisa or something like that), or use a image re-sizer on your computer ( I use fast stone image viewer, it free and very easy to use), I then upload the re-sized pics to my photo bucket account and import them like I said above.
