Hunting up old truck

Nice looking 78. My old truck in back is the same color. I also envy you for living outside the rust belt. No such thing as a daily rust free driver up here. If there is, I'll show you a garage dweller. Which is just as bad as a trailer queeny.

Mine was a garage dweller, only out in the summer months mostly other than for firewood.  only rust on my truck was a 1" square place under the windshield seal where the glue from the factory had blocked one of the drain holes.

Yet anyway I got hit in a wreck and ended up replacing a rust free door, rocker, and hood.  That made me extremely ILL.  I finally get a rust free truck and still have to replace the stuff as if it was a rusty truck...

I'm lucky (unlucky?) in the fact I don't really care what a vehicle looks like as long it runs like a top. Not that I like rust or dents or anything but I don't go out of my way top worry about them. Rattle cans are my friend   LOL! I'd prefer the paint all be close to the same color however...

I've always thought that paint scheme with the strips was cool, it seems noone wanted to keep it though.  haven't seen one in ages.

They were available in 77 in 4 colors, white, black, baby blue, silver.

Mine was white, which I liked cuz no matter the color the wheels were white..  so on my white truck they matched n looked cool.

I always preferred the white steel wagon type rims myself. I don't understand the reason for fancy rims on a truck. Aluminum yes...fancy... no.

But in the same vein, I never understood the reason for 2-wheel drive trucks either. Unless there were 2 tire on each side. A 2 wheel drive 1/2 ton is just ...well...pointless.

I only liked the white wagon wheels, cuz my truck was white (would have hated them on any other color)

Fancy rims on a truck are the same as having fancy mirrors or paint...  depends on what you like

2 wheel drive trucks have their place, its cheaper for people who don't plan to go off road...  ya know like road warriors, pavement pounders, no need for 4wd on paved roads, cept for ice, even then you aint invincible...

I never had a 4wd truck.  no aversion to them, just haven't needed it so far.  so I like my 2wd, they weigh less get way better mileage and cost less.

Depends where you live.  no need whatsoever for a 4wd in downtown NY.  tho lots of need for 4wd if you live on the beach in the movie jaws...lol

Sorry, wasn't trying to stir things up, sometimes I think out loud to often. I agree, it depends on the circumstances. I think a go-fast two wheel drive works well as a sleeper (stop-light racer). A buddy in high school had a 68 El Camino SS 396 w/4 gears and posi and 4.10's. He also 14" of rubber under the one corner and still couldn't tame the beast. We used to sit in the box against the tailgate when we cruised looking for races. Then we acted as a traction device. It was different times with different laws for sure. Some of the younger folk don't understand the meaning of freedom because so many laws have been passed to protect everyone from themselves. It's dang near a crime now to attempt having a good time in which which one MIGHT hurt oneself while doing so. The word 'Safety', like the word 'hero' has been so overused and abused in the last decade and a half that they have no real meaning anymore. I am not trying to stir the pot further, JMHO YMMV

I agree 100% man.   Glad I at least got to grow up and get to have the fun times for four or five years after I got my license.

The seventies and eighties were different that's certain. More fun, less stress, fewer laws. Madd Mothers were just getting their horns installed in their foreheads but they hadn't grown the dragon tails yet. The news media was around simply to relate the news, not how you were supposed feel about the news. Boys could be boys and not be expected to be in touch with their feminine sides. Trees were for climbing and firewood, not hugging. Gas cost a quarter, $0.27 for ethyl. $4.00 collected between three or four friends could put enough gas in a 383 Dodge Charger to cruise all night and do some stoplight racing to boot. All the cruisers, custom vans, and street racers could meet in the local grocery stores parking lot and admire each others cars, trucks or motorcycles without too much trouble from the law, make bets on races and prepare for the upcoming races out in the country on the four lane. The folks with CB's were picked as spotters. Fun times.

Those times seem to generally last only three to five years before responsibilities take over ones life after high school. I believe they are essential to a normal life however. I guess times like those are fewer and farther between nowadays. Most kids don't seem to be interested in that sort of thing.

Those Kids are missing out badly.   Lots of cars I love wer awesome 30 to 50 years before I was born (1980) but I know they're still awesome.  heck my truck is two years older than I am

Kids discounting things yeah theyre missing out, they just don't know how stupid they are for what theyre missing
