Unidentified plug behind glove box?
« on: April 30, 2014, 02:39:31 pm »
I found this plug hanging behind the glove box area on my 84 Silverado K10. Can someone tell me what this is for?

I THINK (That wasn't an option in any of the models that I've had) that goes to/went to the Electronic Spark Control module. I understand that removing it is a popular modification. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of it will say for sure.

I know for sure what it is not, it is not the speaker connector for the dash that is behind the glove box if not connected.  At least you know what it is not, sorry.

Okay, thanks! Anyone know why it was a popular modification to remove it?  Was it like a factory MSD or something?  Wouldn't it be beneficial for mpg etc. to have it still installed?

ESC resulted in a lot of troubling drivability issues.  Read "Changing To A Non-ESC Distributor" by Mike Ervin.

You may have a couple of weather proof plugs with the rubber ring hanging out of the firewall in the engine bay. Just in line with the passenger side exhaust manifold, high enough it is not behind the engine. You can remove them and pull the connector out then use that grommet later on for other accessories.

It should be 7 or 8 wires, all but one will go to these 2 plugs and 1 wire will ground to the firewall.

I removed the wiring because there is no point in having them dangle there and it makes the firewall look less cluttered.
