Flex Fan With Backup Electrical Fan

77 C10 with a mild 350 and TH350

it has a flex fan on it now and its never really ran hot except a few times sitting in backed up traffic on very hot days. it wasnt overheating it usually runs at 180 all day everyday but a few times it got up close to 210 sitting in traffic so it got me thinking with summer coming up id like to add a backup electric fan i could switch on in those situations.

i was considering getting a pusher fan to mount on the front of the radiator but i already have a 14 inch puller fan and there is plenty of space between the flex and the radiator. what do you guys think?

i dont think it will restrict the airflow too much there aint much to it. id love to have that extra insurance on those really hot days

It's really easy to put a big pusher in front of the radiator.  Some aluminum L-bar and some hardware. I used existing holes for mounting it.  I use a fan controller with it and deleted the engine fan entirely, but you could add a fan this way in a couple hours.

No problem.  It went really quick and came out pretty clean.  No problems in operation so far.

i dont see how adding more resistance will fix a problem like that your just putting a band aid on a bigger problem. 210 is normal operating temp for our trucks. if you do anything i would think about getting rid of the flex (they dont save you mpgs a slipping clutch fan will have less resistance than a flex) adding dual pullers only have one running with a key on and the other if your temps get above 210

one 14 inch fan is still going to block the radiator even less than the factory AC rad that covered the whole front of the radiator.

it was just an idea a dumb one i guess

Wasn’t  just talking about the 14” but from what i understood you wanted your flex one fan to pull and another to push. So 3 fans. Hows your fan shroud look?

the shroud is fine what i meant was have the flex and a 14 inch puller in front of it. then rich posted his thread and that makes way more sense than my idea so ill probably loose the flex and the 14 inch puller and just get one 16 inch puller like rich did

My setup is just like what Rich is talking about. No mechanical fan whatsoever (more power!) and a 31" aluminum radiator, never had an issue.
