72 jeep cj5 with a 304
« on: July 21, 2014, 04:06:43 pm »
this is my buds he just got her after been in a barn for the past 20 years. the 72 was the year when amc bought jeep and to say look what we had they fit a 304 under the hood they had to stretch the whole front end but they did it. well she gets nasty when you give her some gas. then she started running rough. thought maybe a bad cam so went to pull it out and took of the intake to find this
every intake push rod was bent to some point this was the 2nd worse. the valves where sticking so we has to work them free. weird part is they push rod are the same our 350s so we had some spares. you can see the bottom left of the picture is the worse

Your posting just made me think of the C.W. McCall song about the CJ-5 with 'smokey' on his tail...

My buddy has a 74 CJ5 with a 304, and a 3 spd trans. He has 38s stuffed under it. Its kinda a handful when ya mash the skinny pedal!
