Lost spark

I was driving to the local store to grab a soda. There was a tractor on the road and i hit the throttle pretty good to get around it then my truck died.. i am getting fuel to the carb but no spark.

The truck is 1986 chevrolet k10 350 4barrel carb

i checked all my plug wires, all look good. any ideas on what i could check next and how to check it?  if you need more information let me know.. thanks in advance

Never mind... i shocked the piss outta myself checking for spark.. so its got spark.. so i got my step dad to crank it over while i shot eether in it. it fired a few times but just a few little burps. would this be a timing issue?

Make sure the distributor isn't loose and twisted when you accelerated.  Jumped timing chain can cause the symptoms, too, but usually at high engine mileage.

distributor cap seems tight, i couldn't move it at all by trying to twist it. im gonna try and get a timing light tomorrow and check out the timing. if the timing chain jumped how would i go about fixing that?

Replacing a timing chain and sprockets, if you determine they are the cause, involves removing the water pump, the crankshaft harmonic balancer and the timing cover.  Some people also remove the engine oil pan.  You can anticipate a timing chain replacement will consume an entire weekend the first time.  How many miles are on the engine?
