can I swap a tranny

I have a 84 C10 6.2 diesal with tranny problems but I have no idea what tranny I have.  What I want to do is install my 700R4 in place of the existing tranny is this possible ???

Sure is. You'll need a 700R4 deisel torque convertor and a new governer though. You cant have a deisel trying to rev like a small block :)
