Pulling motor and trans together

I have a 1987 r20 with a 350 and 350 trans I want to pull them , which is easier together or apart and how to go about it?

     Easier together is you have someone else to help, a leveling bar for your cherry picker, and you removed the hood.  Otherwise separate the two.

My best luck has been slide the transmission cross member out from the back of it and let it hang down to pull the engine down in the back to give access to the upper bolts with a socket & long extension then jack it back in place on cross member then  take out the 4 bolts at the bottom of the bell housing that are accessible.  I have tried several ways and this was the best I came up with when removing both with no help or a levelling bar. With the torque converter unbolted pull engine with a jack supporting the front of the transmission and then after engine is out use a jack in a balanced position slide the cross member out and front support jack and let it down. This works good for me since I do all of my builds by myself when I have the time. I hope this helps you on your project.

My opinion, just my opinion, is separately is easier UNLESS maybe you took the whole front clip off first.  But even then it wouldn't be a big deal to both separately then.

The other thing to consider is can your crane handle both?   It seems mine can barely handle an all iron smallblock.

Well I did them together , and I am restoring the truck but when it goes back I'm set all lines and then set motor and trans bolt them down then the cab cause I had no help and let's just say it was a mess , I have what looked like a murder under my truck getting thr drive shaft out was hardest because mine is a 2 piece and right were the meet is only a foot and wouldn't u know it the  bolts at rounded of on both sides and rusted so I jacked up the front a little had my hoist locked and wigged my trans of , why harder than it sound and how I didn't get any on me must have been my creeper that saved me

I didn't mean to make that sound rude I really didn't , I guess it's just the way I type but I almost did separate them , only reason I didn't is  all my jacks weren't with me I only had 2 that day my other 4 were being borrowed
