please help have a major issue with my 12 bolt rear
« on: September 04, 2014, 06:22:06 pm »
Hi I have an 84 k10 with a gm 12 bolt rear end. I posted this in problem in the newby section but didn't get many responses I'm just looking for as many ideas as I can get. Ok guys so I'm doing that last big stages of doing a custom resto to my baby and as soon as I start tearing into the rear diff I find that the crosspin bolt has been broken in the case/pin for a sometime now. The threads of the bolt came out along with about an 1/8th of the rest of the bolt but the rest is stuck inside.I've been a mechanic for a long time now but I haven't run into this problem yet and frankly I'm kind of stumped on what to do. I can't afford to replace the case so beating on it isn't an option. Anyone have this happen to them and is there a good way to get the rest of that bolt out??? Please help and I'm proud to finally be apart of the square body family

Got a pic ?  I assume you can not get a drill in there ?

Ok well I got the bolt out but that's not my issue. Because that bolt broke the pinion pin spun and grooved the shaft and now it won't go past the spider gears on either side so now I have to cut it out with a torch... awesome 😠

I hope you can get it out without damage to the housing.
