carb spacer and turbonator
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:17:00 am »
does anyone have experience with carb spacers? do they work? i have plenty of clearence, so thats not an issue. is it worth the 80 bucks though or whatever they're worth. even if its like 5-10horse it would be worth it to me, since i have a carb off in about 10 minutes. also has anyone used the "turbonator". it looks kinda stupid to me. if anyone is unfamiliar with this exact product, it looks like a piddly little fan that some how pushes more air through the carb. same idea as a charger, except it doesn't run off of anything. it just gets put inside your air cleaner on top of carb, and somehow increases from 10-30hp!!?? looks like a cheap gimmick to me. i'm just wondering if anyone has tried either of these quick add ons and seen any performance at all. or even gas mileage would be great. thanks for the input!

Depending on the application a carb spacer will add power.  Typically taller spacers add more power on top end.  4 holes (matched) add more torque.  On a stock motor though, you would just have to test it at the track.

by 4 holes matched you mean equal size to the quadrajet? i think i would prefer some more low end torque now, or even mid throttle. no idea about the turbonator though? its on the chevyhiperformance.com website. boasts up to 30hp and 31% better fuel economy though not to expect those numbers. anyone use one or know of someone that has?? thanks.

Any thing in the path of air is going to cause a restriction.  I personally say it is a cheap gimmick.

Yes, same hole sizes as the Q-jets.

thanks alot. defenitely looks like a cheap gimmick, thats why i wanted someone who had possibly tried it, but its looking like no one has fallen for it yet. o well. as for spacer, do they make different sizes of matching holes? or is it just one stock size for quadrajets. if there is diff sizes, how do i know what size i have?? thanks again roundedline!!
