Starter for SB > high torque

Has anybody had any luck with one of those "high" torque (smaller-lighter)starters. If so, can you
tell me good quality one that wont break the bank? I dont know if you can say the name of the company on
this forum though.

      I installed on in a 79 blazer before that I bought at O'reilly's auto parts for my son.  They are more than regular starters though.  You are going to have to price check and shop around if price is a issue.
      They fit and work just fine.

I've had my DB Electrical SDR0031-L gear reduction starter on my truck for over 2-1/2 years and it still works perfectly.  It's actually cheaper than most parts store starters.  Turns the engine over so much faster.  I was so happy with it that I bought a similar starter from them for my Tahoe recently when its starter went out.  That saved me something like $70.  Very happy customer.

I bought mine at a swap meet a few years ago that mostly sold pro comp stuff......all the sticker says is hitachi, but it was on my derby car motor for 7ish years and now on my DD (86 K20) it whirls over fast every time. Even had the motor so hot it had 5lb oil psi and temp gauge was pegged for 45mins AFTER I shut it off.

I thats another thing i was wondering.... if they are affected by the heat (selinoid) click.
but yea - its sounds like you've had good luck with yours - 7 years is great -for a SB starter.

I use a starter from a 1994 k 2500 its smaller and like 75 bucks works great

I just bought one from summit racing it was around $110. It's a lil smaller than the stock but spins my 10.5:1 408 just fine
