Fleet vs. Stepside
« on: November 13, 2014, 11:38:54 am »
I understand a truck is worth whatever someone is willing to pay, but in general, given the same conditions, do fleetsides and stepsides sell for the same money or is one more desireable than the other?  I ask not only because I want to know, but also because I've seen people converting fleets to steps, but not the other way around.

Thanks,
Randy

It is a matter of personal preference.  Step side short bed conversions are popular.  Personally I like the regular beds.  In the long bed step sides they are more rare and most were purchased by utility companies.  I concluded they were a lower cost option but have not confirmed that.  There are folks going to the small back window from the big trucks where the rage in the 60-66 was to get a large rear window.  That is the beauty of these trucks.  They are still fairly reasonable to get and customize as you want and for the most part.

On a short bed truck I don't think the the bed style would effect the price. A clean truck will bring good money regardless of the bed.
On a long bed, the 8'  step side is an acquired taste.  People seem to love them or hate them.

imo i like fleet beds. when i think of step sides i dont think of a working truck as much. not saying they cant but saying you fit as much into them. think step sides do bring more money if you want to resale because it seams there are more fleet
