High beams stuck on high

Hmmm... what did I do today? Laid my finger open taking the steering column apart to try to ID the problem as to why my high beams are stuck on after much googling, searching here(when it works, its given me probs here lately) and ChevyTalk/FSC/GMSB.

I'm still leaking. Last time I messed with the truck tryna get the rear brake hose off, i ended up in the urgent care with a piece of rust in my eye. I'll take a laceration and some blood any day.

Bad news is I still didn't get my highs un-stuck. Bright light city it is.

Ahhh!  The mechanic's life....  Look at it this way... It'll feel good once it stops hurting!   

If it's your '87, adjust the dimmer switch on the upper left side of the column under the dash.

Bought a new headlight for the driver side since it was out which is why i kept my highs on. Unfortunately, the highs  been stuck for a long time, good thing was it covered up the light being out on lows, bad part is it invites being pulled over just like a dead headlight.

Tore apart the inside of the truck in an effort to free up the high beams, which i did. Took the steering wheel off, was planning to take the column sleeve off as well but got the highbeams freed, however it happened, so i confirmed and put everything back together. I was lost, and the chilton/haynes werent very descriptive. So, the highs dont click on but theyre off. job done in a way. however the turn signals are dead/nonexistent. ah well, lesser evil i guess. i NEVER want to go thru taking the wheel off again. that was a first for me, and i didnt get done til 3pm after working all night. FML

Yep, its the 87. The new switch made no difference, so the rod may be bent but it doesn't appear that way. However, after messing with it a lil bit after installing the new switch, it kinda came loose and completely came out, so i slid it back up in the sleeve and appeared to get it back in place, but it still had no click. So i have regular lights now, no brights on lock so I'm not gon complain, even if the turn level is limper than a boiled spaghetti noodle. just hanging there like heyyyyyyyyyy. smh

Good news is, i feel comfortable enough in changing out my steering wheel to a 4 spoke woodgrain. So, thats a good thing.
