1985 K20 Goodwrench 350
« on: April 06, 2015, 05:52:14 pm »
Ok guys, new here. I've got my first American made vehicle, my first automatic transmission, my first V8.
My grandfather bought this K20 brand new in 1985. long bed, single cab, 350 with HEI and with a turbo 400. It has the crappy
transfer case with plastic slides that disengages randomly, which he rebuilt for me for now. It's been sitting for ten years,
the brakes actually grab a tiny bit, gonna bleed them soon. its got rotten rockers, rotten fenders, rotten bed sides, and needs
a windshield. Im not sure that I want to give up gas mileage to make it a daily driver but i basically want a presentable
workable pickup to beat around in. The original 350 was smoked in the mid 90s and my grandfather put the basic good wrench
350 in it, which according to him has less than 5000 miles on it. what would you guys do besides a basic tune up to make it
streetable? remember, low budget, weekend truck  :)

judging by the plow mount and rust on the side i would imagine the brake lines maybe fuel lines are about shot. might be a good ideal to replace them at least the brake lines

If its been sitting for 10 years you're gonna have to replace the calipers and wheel cylinders and rubber flex lines and probably the master too

And check all the hard lines  very carefully

Yes i forgot to mention that after 2000 basically all it did was plow and take garbage to the dump
as well as the occasional weeklong camping trip on the beach, in the salt :) Yesterday I fed it some
brake fluid and we tried to bleed it while it was off, and i couldn't pump- guess thats a trade off
of having power brakes. Finally got the fronts bled and happy, but the backs wouldn't bleed for me
so I'll revisit them tomorrow.
