Body Shop Prices? (rust grind-out)
« on: August 09, 2015, 05:16:41 pm »

Maybe y'all can help me before I go into this...

My windshield gasket is in shambles and needs to be replaced. However, pealing back the seals on the upper interior side(haven't investigated the front yet) has revealed bright orange surface(hopefully) rust pockets. I need to take it to a bodyshop to have that taken care of before the window is put back in.

What prices should I be looking at for the bodyshop work?  One shop I took it to said, short of replacing the roof, they would grind out the rust and then apply an etching primer; estimated around $400-500.

Does this sound like that right solution/price?

I'd be temped to just do it myself, but I don't have the know-how, materials or tools. And my attempts at working with "painting" have not ended well.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
IM

It could very well could be the previous paint color if it's a smooth bright orange surface. Rust is more of a brownish brick color and is rough with some layering. It's not something that you would hope for anywhere on truck. Most time that minor rust surface could be brushed off and treated with Ospho rust treatment and then filled and painted. Don't worry about being perfect because it's under the rubber seal. You can do this yourself and if you do mess up you can correct by redoing or surrender your wallet to a body shop and hope he does just a good as job as you would. Look for Youtube videos on how to repair rust on your vehicle. Good luck
