Auto to 5 Speed Manual

I searched back several pages but couldn't find any information. I have an 85 C20 with the 3 speed auto on the column. I'm wanting to go with the NV4500 out of a 90-92 Chevy but not sure if it will be more feasible to find the muncie four speed that came in our trucks and swap it in. I really would like to put the stick in it. I am not at all mechanically inclined so will have to have it done. What is the expense I should expect to incur and what is the level of difficulty?

NV4500 can range from a few hundred to a few thousand depending on source. There are also 2 different generations of the NV4500.

Then you have to decide what transfer case you want. Then install the new cross members and then the pedals.

I'd say for a shop to do this you would be looking at like 2-3k.

Honestly I feel you would be better with finding a four speed, in a donor truck, so you/shop can swap all the parts over as needed.

With that said, a nv4500 is nice with overdrive, hence more costly and some shops may not want to do it.

C20 2 wheel drive may require new driveshaft for either swap another 3-400 on top of say 2500 to do just manual swap

One consideration that I have not found an answer is will the NV4500 require the high hump or will the automatic low hump work in a 2 wheel drive?

Need high hump, rear of standard trans is higher then any automatic.
