cab support problem

I have a 79' C20 and the floorboards are rusted through pretty bad. I put stainless sheet metal on the floor to cover the holes. The problem I'm have is the front cab supports un =der the floor are rusted. mainly the bushing area. I don't know what the actual metal cab supports look like and how they go on the truck. I bought it rusted. My cab sways alot on bumpy roads and turns. How do I go about fixing this? thanx:\

If the cab is moving around when you are driving it will need to be removed to fix it right. If you are going to remove it you might want to think about finding a better cab. It can be fixed on the frame but the repair will not be as good or last as long in my opinion. Once they rust to this point its a lot of work to repair them either way. If the cab support and floor are that bad then the inner / outer rockers, cab corners, doors, and fenders must be rough as well? What it boils down to I guess is how long are you going to keep it and or how long do want the repair to last? Do you want a driver or restored truck?  Does it need other stuff like ball joints, brakes, brake / fuel lines, motor, clutch or trans work, etc. etc. How much money are you willing to spend on it? You might be better off finding a similar year truck in better shape and use this one for parts. Hope this helps you out. Harold.

Thanx blazin. this helps a bit. yeah, my other panels are pretty bad. But its just the bottom thats really bad. The rest of the truck looks pretty nice. the motor has 160,000 original miles and still runs strong. the guy that owned it before me did minor towing on his farm. Everythings great on it besides the lower body area rust.
I'm wanting to fix it really desent, but not quite resoration. Wanting to get an overdrive tranny for it, 700r4 or something, a good one. I heard they were prone to problems. thanx again

Only the stock ones, If you get one rebuilt by a reputable person or shop they hold up pretty good.

The factory 1982 -1988 700R4's were prone to problems, but if you get a rebuilt one you should be fine.  Plus the problems some had required a rebuild, so if it lasted this long...
