C-10 or Bonanza 20?
« on: November 07, 2015, 08:27:34 pm »
The emblem on my fender says "Bonanza 20",  but i could swear its a c-10.  So what is it? I already  checked the vin #,  which points to  c-10.  So why does it say 20 at the bonanza fender emblem?  I do have the build sheet and it says heavy duty rear leaf springs. Thats all i know.

From the photos you've posted, it's a C-10...

Is this on one or both fenders?

Do you think that the fenders were swapped from a 20-series truck? It's also possible someone just put 'Bonanza 20' emblems on there as they couldn't find the proper fender badge(s).

That is a slight possibility, but of all the emblems available in all the catalogs and online parts companies, none offer the bonanza emblem, they offer most of the others though. Pretty sure fenders are original. The bonanza emblems are extremely rare, as you dont see very many bonanzas out there, in general.  What does the  "20" indicate??

10 = 1/2 ton
20 = 3/4 ton
30 = 1 ton

If it is a 3/4 ton, then wouldn't the rear axle be full float?

The only true way is to find the RPO sticker or build sheet.  If the VIN indicated a C10 then the truck has had the fenders/emblems changed at one time or another.  20 series indicates a 3/4 ton thus having 8 lug rims.  The dash pad insert would also have a Bonanza on it.

Prior to the 1980 model year, the Bonanza/Royal Sierra packages were based on the Z62 trim level with the addition of floor carpeting; after that time, the packages offered a choice of Z84 or YE9 interiors.

The above statement was found on http://www.73-87.com/7387info/7387trimlev.htm

Yeah, its gotta be something like that.  Officially and obviously its a c-10.  I'll visit the previous owner sometime.

Still weird though, I bought the truck from an old guy who I think bought it back in 77 and kept it garaged often. Maybe they messed up at the factory..doubt it.  I go visit him and ask some questions.
