Door Switch Wiring
« on: October 22, 2015, 03:56:07 am »
Is there a picture tutorial somewhere on how to install the door jam switches?

How do you get access behind there? I need to run some additional wires from under the dash and to the doors themselves too, along side the OEM door wiring.

Thank you.

The door jamb switch is removed by removing a retaining nut. I've used a 7/16 socket ( long one).  The wiring for the door window and lock switches go thru a rubber corrugated boot that's screwed on to the door frame. It takes some patience to remove the boot.

It's the dome-shaped grommet in the cab that the door wiring runs through that is giving me the trouble.

To those who run additional wires (like for speakers) into the door, how do you it? The OEM wires that are there now are so tightly squeezed that you can't push a straightened paper-clip though it.

The wires for the door jamb switch is seperate from the power window and lock harness that goes into the door.

My truck has replacement doors with holes drilled for a harness and boot attachments. The cab doesn't. I may eventually remove the doors and drill a hole through the cab to re-run my speaker wires all nice and pretty but....

For now, I had to dislocate several fingers and use all manner of pokers and pryers to get the dome light wire grommet loose. I then drilled a 1/4 hole about 8 inches above the dome light switch, I then fished stiff a wire from under the dash, out the drilled hole and then through the preexisting holes in the replacement doors to run speaker wire for the speakers. The grommet jammed back in pretty nicely, so I think its good for the time being.
