Keys question
« on: January 04, 2016, 06:57:24 pm »
So I'm in the process of rebuilding a 79 c20 and I went outta town and may have lost my keys. I wanted to know if I can just get keys from a different truck and they'll work or do I have to have a key specific to a certain ignition? Thanks in advance

I think your easiest solution is buying a new ignition cylinder(they come with a new key) and just swapping that out.

You can get keys and the lock cylinder from a different truck and use it in the column but the hard part is getting the lock cylinder out of the column without the key. If you absolutely know the keys are lost then a drill and 3/8 drill bit will destroy the wafers in the lock cylinder enough to rotate it and push the cylinder lock in which is located in a small hole on the bottom of the column beneath the lock cylinder housing.

Or you can pay someone to come to your house and cut new keys for the original locks... But why pay when you can use power tools

Glad you found them. I lost a set of keys once in the winter, went 3 months without them. Found them one day in the spring, right where we pushed all the snow from the parking lot to. Also found a phone that still remains unclaimed(had no contacts in it either)

I lost my entire set of keys to everything in the fall while logging out back on a couple of acres. I found them the next spring while walking out back in the woods. I wasnt even looking for them. What once was lost has now been found.
